Berchen
Call to adventure
While primarily known for my work in education brands and learning communities, I occasionally take on projects that align with my belief that meaningful connections are made in thoughtfully designed environments. Berchen approached me to help them create not just kitchens, but spaces where families and friends could come together for kitchen discos, and kids could do their homework at the kitchen table.
Challenge
Berchen's products were expertly crafted with sustainability in mind, but their brand wasn't conveying the deeper purpose behind their work - creating spaces that encourage people to slow down, connect, and find joy in being at home together. Working with MakeGood Design, I helped transform a simple kitchen company brand into a catalyst for a memorable home life.
Approach
Through interactive workshops and stakeholder conversations, I uncovered something special: founders Chris and Helen’s background in adventure sports and hospitality had given them a unique perspective on how spaces can bring people together. I crafted a brand strategy that celebrated the joy of staying in - positioning the kitchen as a space for learning, sharing and connection.
The result was a playful, sustainable brand that understood its role in creating gatherings, fostering family traditions, and building domestic communities. From the name "Berchen" (inspired by birch + kitchen) to the cheeky copy and joyful visual identity, we created every element to inspire connection and creativity in the home.
Impact
Berchen is now in a position to create spaces where real connections can be made - which perfectly aligns with my mission of building communities where people can learn, grow, and thrive together.
